Public safety education

Water, ice, and boating safety in Alaska.

The best mission is the one we never have to run. These are the safety habits we teach on the water and in the community.

Cold water safety

Cold shock and incapacitation happen fast in Alaska waters. Learn the 1-10-1 rule and dress for immersion, not the weather.

Life jackets

Wear a properly fitted, Coast Guard-approved life jacket every time you're on the water — including in calm conditions.

Ice safety

No ice is ever completely safe. Know the color and thickness cues, carry ice picks, and never go out alone.

Boating safety

File a float plan, check weather, carry required safety equipment, and don't operate under the influence.

Family & kids

Teach children to always wear a life jacket on or near the water. Constant, close supervision is the single biggest prevention factor.
